The Tunisian Health Ministry has revealed that more than 5 million people have received the coronavirus vaccine.

An exact 5,022,698 Tunisians were vaccinated by August 23. A total of 44,511 received the jab during the same day.

The number of Tunisians who received the first dose is 3,598,082 and the number of those who are fully vaccinated totaled 1,424,616.

The total of hospitalized COVID-19 patients in Tunisia reached 2,807 on August 27. Up to 544 were admitted to the intensive care and 130 are mechanically ventilated. This brings the total of hospitalized patients to 3,481.

Tunisia is heading towards recovery, following a wave that left 4,900 Tunisians dead during July.

Dr. Samar Samoud, a professor of immunology at the Pasteur Institute, said Tunisia is not fully out of the health crisis.

Samoud urged Tunisians to get inoculated to reach herd immunity.
