Health Minister Simon Harris' hilarious reply to pair of 10-year-olds asking to 'cancel lent'

In a much needed moment of light-heartedness, Health Minister Simon Harris had to clarify that he doesn't have the power to cancel lent to a pair of 10-year-olds.

As the country grapples with the coronavirus crisis, Mr Harris was passed on the question from a dad-of-two on Twitter.

Lifeline Ambulance owner David Hall tweeted the Minister: "Hi Simon, I know you are busy but my two ten-year-olds asked me to ask you can you cancel lent please. Thanks."

And the Minister made sure to respond to the request although we're sure his response was not what the young pair had hoped for.

Minister Harris said: "Not sure even the new emergency legislation allows me to do that. A matter for a higher power.

"Though I'm sure a god would understand the need for(public health appropriate!) treats to get through this challenging time for all."

The government representative was praised for his humour and compassion which he said will be vital in the coming months.

Harris added: "We will need both in the days ahead - and resilience. We face tough times but this is a great country and, working together, we will prevail."
