Saudi Health Minister Dr. Tawfiq Al-Rabiah stated on Sunday that no cases of the new coronavirus have been detected in the Kingdom.

The health ministry has taken several strict precautionary measures to prevent the outbreak of the new virus, he added.

The measures have focused on incoming direct and indirect flights from China.

All travelers coming from China must undergo through health checks before entering the Kingdom, he added.

The Saudi Center for Disease Prevention and Control (SaudiCDC) has prepared a health guide on how to handle suspected cases and issued advice to travelers heading to regions where the virus has been detected.

Since news of the new virus broke out, the ministry adopted several precautionary measures and implemented international regulations related to such cases.

Contacts and coordination is ongoing with the World Health Organization and General Authority of Civil Aviation to tackle the situation, said Al-Rabiah.

An outbreak of a new coronavirus that began in the central Chinese city of Wuhan has killed 41 people and infected more than 1,300 globally.

The virus has caused alarm because it is still too early to know just how dangerous it is and how easily it spreads between people. And because it is new, humans have not been able to build any immunity to it.

Symptoms include fever, cough and difficulty breathing. China says the virus is mutating and can be transmitted through human contact. Those most affected are older people and those with underlying health conditions.

Three research teams have begun work on developing potential vaccines, the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations said.
