Health minister predicts baby boom after coronavirus lockdown

UK health minister Nadine Dorries predicts there will be a baby boom in nine months, thanks to the current coronavirus lockdown.

Couples are spending more time than ever before together and strict rules prevent them leaving the house for all but a few limited reasons.

Ms Dorries, who was the first MP to be diagnosed with coronavirus, tweeted:: "As the minister responsible for maternity services, I’m just wondering how busy we are going to be, nine months from now."

UK health chiefs have made it clear that people in a relationship, but not living with their partner, should either move in together or not see each other until the lockdown ends.

Dr Alex George, former Love Island contestant, told the BBC sex during the coronavirus pandemic is safe if you are living with your partner.

He said: "If you're in a relationship… living with that person, and sharing the same environment, it shouldn't change your situation. However if one of you is displaying symptoms of coronavirus then you should maintain your social-distancing and isolate, even within your home. In an ideal world everyone would stay two metres apart - even in their own house, but we realise this may not be realistic."

He advised against sex with new sexual partners because of the risk of passing on the virus - which can be transmitted through close contact and kissing.

Dr Alex said: "If you've kissed or been in contact with someone who you think has gone on to develop coronavirus, make sure you self-isolate."
