Health food cafe Martha's set to close after more than seven years in business

It’s been a summer of restaurant closures here in Glasgow , with numerous businesses shutting their doors for the last time.

The is a lunchtime favourite - and customers are sad to see it go.

Martha's has been serving up healthy dishes from scratch for seven years on St Vincent Street and thrilled students when it opened a pop-up store on Byres Road a few years later.

But the owner took to Facebook to announce the sad news that the business would be closing immediately.

The post read: “This is a very sad day for myself and my great staff, but after a series of unfortunate circumstances and bad luck with expansion plans, our financial position has deteriorated to a point where I can no longer run the business.

"I must adhere to my responsibilities as Director and cease trading with immediate effect. Steps have also been taken to place the company into Liquidation.

"This may come as a shock to many of you and I can only thank you for all the support you have given over the 7 years, 9 months that we have been trading.

"The team have enjoyed making new friends and spreading the food love to you all and I hope we have brought some colourful, healthy flavour to your world."

It ended: "Martha’s was my first venture into the hospitality business and it has been a joy to see thousands of people enjoy Martha’s every week over the years.

"I set the bar high and the plan was to have many more Martha’s but that dream hasn’t materialized unfortunately. I have nothing but the highest respect and praise for people who manage to succeed in this business."

The latest closure follows a number of high profile restaurants and bars shutting up in the last few months, from to and

Martha's saying farewell will leave two prime locations open in Glasgow's west end and the city centre - we’ll be on the lookout for whatever comes next for these spots.
