Health expert shares 14 'healthy' foods 'stopping you from losing weight'

An expert has shared how your weight loss journey could be hindered by eating traditionally 'healthy' or 'diet' foods.

Weight loss specialist Pippa Campbell has outlined five reasons you might not be losing weight - and the foods you might want to replace or reconsider in your diet.

In her blog, Pippa specified all the fruits, veg and meat that you should consider not eating if trying to lose weight.

Dieters should swap apples and bananas for other fruit, Pippa says, and strike a balance on eating healthy but with high-fat foods like avocados.

The Jersey-based coach works with clients as a 'Functional Nutrition and Weight Loss Practitioner'.

Here's what Pippa recommends for people looking to shed some weight.

Avoid 'healthy' foods that are high in calories or fat

When it comes to foods high in calories or fat, Pippa says these so-called healthy foods 'will not help your efforts' to lose weight.

"Certain fruits are higher in sugar and so should be swapped in for lower sugar alternatives," she wrote.

Limit fruits such as:

  • Bananas
  • Mangoes
  • Apples
  • Pears
  • Cherries
  • Grapes
  • Lychees

Instead replace with:

  • Raspberries

  • Strawberries

  • Blackberries

  • Lemon

  • Lime

  • Papaya

Strike a balance on healthy but high-fat foods

Dieters should be mindful about foods that are healthy but high in fat.

Pippa said: "Some healthy foods are also high in fat which means if you are trying to lose weight, you need to strike a balance between obtaining the nutrition they offer but not eating so much that their fat content becomes detrimental to your weight loss plans."

These foods include:

  • Avocados

  • Cheese

  • Fatty fish

  • Nuts

  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil

  • Full fat yoghurt

  • Coconuts and coconut oil

Eat food high in protein

Pippa says: "Protein can help with weight loss as it helps you stay fuller for longer."

The weight loss coach adds: "A protein rich diet can also help you build lean muscle if you are strength training - and lean muscle burns more fat."

These are the high-protein foods Pippa recommends:

Meat:

  • Chicken
  • Turkey
  • Pork
  • Beef
  • Salmon
  • Tuna
  • Tempeh

Vegetables and legumes:

  • Cabbage
  • Cauliflower
  • Broccoli
  • Chinese cabbage
  • Potatoes
  • Legumes
  • Beans
  • Artichokes
  • Lentils
  • Asparagus
  • Peas
  • Chickpeas
  • Quinoa
  • Watercress

Nuts:

  • Chia seeds
  • Pumpkin seeds
  • Almonds

Dairy:

  • Milk
  • Cottage cheese
  • Greek yoghurt
