Health department allays fourth wave fear; Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai says Covid under control

BENGALURU: The number of Covid cases in the state, especially Bengaluru, has spiked in the last one week. But there is no need to press the panic button, say state health department authorities.

The number of daily positive cases touched 291 in the city on Sunday from 178 cases reported on May 31, registering a 63% jump. Ditto with state numbers: it spiked to 301 positive cases on Sunday while there were ony 197 cases reported on May 31. The positivity rate in Bengaluru is 1.6%.

The health department has allayed fears of it being the start of the fourth wave. Chief minister Basavaraj Bommai on Monday said that the pandemic is under control in the state and there is no need for panic.

On Monday, Karnataka reported 230 fresh Covid-19 cases. There was no Covid-related death in the state during the day. Of the 230 cases, 222 were from Bengaluru Urban.
