LUCKNOW: Healthcare services including outpatient door services, diagnostics, surgeries, emergency patient care and clerical work are expected to be hit at King George’s Medical University (KGMU) due to indefinite strike by around 3,500 permanent non-teaching staff from Friday.
The call of the strike has been given by the Employees’ Council (EC) to protest delay in cadre restructuring and wages on a par with Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences.
“Around 10,000 employees—6,500 contractual and 3,500 permanent—including paramedics, technicians, nursing employees and clerks will participate in the strike because their demands have not met for the past five years despite several assurances by the state government,” claimed Pradeep Gangwar, president of the council.
Officials at King George’s Medical University said that these staff members work in operation theatres, OPD registration and admission counters, general emergency wards, intensive care units, hyper-dependency units, pathological testing facilities, X-ray, MRI, CT scan and ultrasound services, among others.
Hence, all services are likely to be affected.
