Health care worker at Royal Glamorgan Hospital and dad-of-two dies with Covid

A health care worker at a Welsh hospital has died with coronavirus, officials have confirmed.

Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board has said it is "deeply saddened" to announce the death of 59-year-old father of two Mark David Simons.

Mr Simons worked for the health board as a health care support worker at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital.

He leaves behind two sons, Liam and Calum, and his mother Audrey Simons.

Health board chief executive Paul Mears broke the news to colleagues, saying that Mr Simons died at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital last week.

He said: “We are all deeply saddened by Mark’s death and we would like to offer our condolences to his family, friends and close colleagues.

“Mark was a valued and dedicated member of the team at Royal Glamorgan Hospital and he will be greatly missed by all those who knew and worked with him.

He added: “Mark’s death, naturally, has resonated across our whole health board although we are acutely aware of how upsetting this is for those who are Mark’s immediate colleagues.

"I would like to thank our staff who worked with Mark for their continued commitment and the support they have provided to each other as well as Mark’s family.

“Our thoughts remain with everyone who knew Mark at this difficult time.”

As a tribute to Mr Simons, the health board will be holding a minute’s silence on Monday, November 23 at 9am.
