Health bosses confirm Nottinghamshire's current R-rate

Nottinghamshire's R-rate is reported to be higher than the national average currently, with rates still increasing in some areas.

Public Health directors have estimated the rate of reproduction for Covid-19 currently sits at around 0.8 and 1.1.

This is taking into account the entire city and the wider county together.

England's estimated R-rate is around 0.6 to 0.9, meaning the growth rate is roughly -6% to -2% each day.

If the R-value is at 1, it means that each person with Covid-19 is infecting one other person, on average.

Just last week Nottinghamshire's R-rate was estimated to be between 0.8 and 0.9, meaning it could be increasing.

Public health director Jonathan Gribbin said this reflected the situation seen in rates across the county.

Mr Gribbin said there was a "high degree of variation" of rates in Nottinghamshire with some areas decreasing and others increasing.

Speaking at a Public Health briefing on Friday, February 26, he said: "That's a problem for us potentially, because coming out of lockdown with rates anything like as high as this means that we will run a high risk of resurgence sooner or later which would threaten the NHS.

"None of us want that. We don't want that to happen at all."
