Health boss gives New Year Covid-19 message to Nottinghamshire

Nottinghamshire's Director of Public Health has urged residents to stick to Tier 4 measures as part of a New Year's message to slow the spread of Covid-19.

Jonathan Gribbin has asked everyone to pull together to keep each other safe by following the rules in place.

All of Nottinghamshire is now in Tier 4 measures which has brought the closure of non-essential retail, leisure and personal care services

Mr Gribbin said: "Some of you may be making New Year's resolutions today. Can I encourage you to resolve to double down on all of those measures which are going to keep you, your family and people that you don't know at all safe and well in 2021.

"It's by reducing our contact with other people, it's by keeping going with the frequent, rigorous hand washing, it's by maintaining the social distancing, it's by making sure we get a test really promptly and isolating if we have symptoms that we keep ourselves, our families and those around us safe in Nottinghamshire."

It comes after a total of 700 new coronavirus cases were recorded across Nottinghamshire in the past 24 hours, according to the latest Government data.

They were confirmed as Nottinghamshire and vast swathes of England entered Tier 4, upon rising infection rates across the majority of the country.

Tier 4 generally means rules are now similar in that to those imposed as part of the national lockdown back in November, with all non-essential shops closed and travel outside a locality now prohibited.

Data released as of 4pm on December 31 shows 700 new cases have been reported across the city and county, up from the 623 recorded on December 30.
