Health and Safety probe after lorry driver, 57, dies in workplace accident

An investigation is underway after a 57-year-old man died in a workplace accident in Manchester.

According to the Irish Mirror, the man was an Irish national from the Donegal area who had driven a lorry to the city earlier this week.

The fatal incident happened at around 9pm on Tuesday night.

It is understood the man may have been unloading a lorry for a delivery firm when he was injured.

He became trapped while carrying out his work, according to local news site, Donegal News.

The man was taken to a hospital in Manchester where he was later pronounced dead.

An investigation into what happened has been launched by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).

The HSE was unable to confirm any more details on where the incident took place and directed media inquiries to Greater Manchester Police.

GMP were unable to confirm any details of the incident without more information about the location.

A HSE spokesperson said: “HSE is aware of the incident and we are working with the police to investigate the circumstances.”
