Headteacher denies rumours that 75 pupils were sent home for having wrong uniform

A school has rejected social media reports that a large number of pupils were sent home on their first day of term for wearing the wrong uniform.

John Whitehead, headteacher of Forest High School in Cinderford, said it was untrue that he sent around 75 pupils home for uniform breaches.

He said about ten pupils were stopped at the door for not having the correct uniform and their families were phoned at home, reported Gloucestershire Live.

Mr Whitehead, who came from a top Bristol school for the post, said: “Seventy five is completely wrong. We had ten students who had the wrong uniform.

"Some of them had been given the wrong skirts and I rang up the supplier to put that right.

“We called all the parents to explain and some of them brought the correct items into school. Others said to send their child home so they could sort it out later.

“To say we sent them home implies we shovelled them out the door regardless, that’s not what happened.

"99 percent of students had the right uniform and were superb as they came through the door.”

Some parents say school staff were being too strict and were turning away pupils who had the same styles they had worn last year.

Others said staff rejected knee length skirts sold in the school section of major department stores because they were too tight or the wrong the fabric.

Some parents claimed their children felt humiliated and many said they did not see an email sent the day before stressing the need for proper school uniform and good behaviour on the first day back.
