
A craftsman examines a daruma doll at a workshop in Takasaki, Gunma Prefecture, a city famous for the production of the rotund dolls, which are said to bring good luck. The papier-mache dolls are popular among politicians around election time, and with campaigning for the upcoming House of Representatives race set to start on Oct. 19, eight artisans have been busy making daruma in five different sizes at the workshop, which has received a flood of orders since August.
