In a strategic move to capitalise on India’s accelerating renewable energy transition, HVR Solar is all set to commercially commence operations at its new 1.2 gigawatt (GW) solar module manufacturing facility near Murthal, Sonipat, in June 2026.
The development marks a critical milestone for the domestic solar ecosystem. It also aligns with the government's climate commitments and broader efforts to reduce reliance on imported solar components.
Strategic scale and economic impact
The new advanced manufacturing unit, spread across a 6.5-acre site, is designed to cater to the surging demand for high-performance solar modules in both domestic and international markets. By establishing this high-capacity infrastructure, HVR Solar is reinforcing its commitment to the ‘Make in India’ initiative, positioning the country as a viable global hub for solar manufacturing.
From an economic perspective, the facility is expected to be a major catalyst for local development. It will generate significant employment opportunities, operating with a workforce of over 500 skilled personnel. Industry experts view the commissioning of such high-capacity plants as instrumental in enabling sustainable economic growth and long-term energy security for the nation.
Streamlined production and global bankability
To ensure high-volume delivery without compromising on reliability, the plant features three parallel, fully automated Tier-1 production lines. While the facility heavily emphasises scale, it also adapts to the evolving technological demands of the global solar value chain.
The plant will manufacture a diverse portfolio of high-efficiency solar solutions, including upcoming Heterojunction (HJT) modules, established capabilities in next-generation TOPCon (compatible with G12 and G12R formats), and bifacial modules.
To guarantee global competitiveness and investor bankability, the facility adheres to stringent regulatory and quality frameworks:
- Certifications: The plant is fully compliant with key industry standards, including BIS, IEC, ISO, and ALMM certifications.
- Quality assurance: The production lines integrate robotics-enabled manufacturing and AI-based quality control systems to ensure consistent output and minimal defects.
- Product longevity: All modules produced at the facility are backed by a 25-year performance warranty, ensuring long-term value and trust for commercial and utility-scale customers.
The strategic focus of the Sonipat plant is heavily geared towards blending volume with high-end innovation.
“The launch of our Sonipat facility is a testament to our vision of building a globally competitive solar manufacturing base in India,” said the Director of HVR Solar. “By leveraging advanced technologies and scalable infrastructure, we are committed to delivering high-efficiency, reliable modules that contribute meaningfully to the country’s clean energy ambitions.”
Echoing the focus on long-term market positioning, the Director further noted, “Our focus is on combining scale with innovation. By integrating AI-driven processes and advanced module technologies like TOPCon and bifacial, we are not only enhancing performance but also ensuring long-term reliability with a 25-year performance warranty. This positions us strongly in the global solar value chain.”
Outlook
As India rapidly expands its renewable energy capacity to meet its national sustainability targets, domestic production capabilities will dictate the pace of this transition. Looking ahead, HVR Solar plans to continue expanding its manufacturing footprint and technological capabilities, positioning itself as a resilient and competitive player in the global solar market.
