Headless body found in 1970 identified through DNA

  • The headless and handless body discovered in upstate New York in March 1970 has been identified as Clyde A. Coppage, thanks to advances in DNA technology.
  • New York State Police announced the identification of Coppage, who was 35 years old and living in Genesee, Pennsylvania, at the time of his disappearance.
  • The case remained cold for decades due to limitations in DNA technology until authorities exhumed the body in June 2022 to obtain a DNA profile.
  • Investigators believe Coppage was killed and dismembered elsewhere before his body was dumped along a rural road, and he was never reported missing by his family. New
  • The investigation into Coppage's death remains open and active, with authorities urging anyone with information to contact the New York State Police.
