Heading to the coast this Easter? These are the car parks where you can no longer use coins

Cashless parking machines are being installed along the North Tyneside coast - which means you won't be able to use coins at some of the main car parks.

There are currently cash payment machines at numerous car parking sites across the borough however, at some, they are being replaced with card-only devices.

The St Mary's Lighthouse car park, in Whitley Bay , is among the places that will only accept payment by card.

North Tyneside Council said machines at that location have experienced regular vandalism in the past.

Meanwhile, the authority is continuing to offer the alternative option of payment by mobile phone (RingGo) at all its parking facilities.

The council has taken the decision to pay the 20p additional transactional charge to RingGo for all those who use this payment option along the coast.

This means the extra cost is not being passed on to customers.

In addition, free parking after 6pm has been introduced across North Tyneside and the cost of the Coast Day Pass has been reduced from £4.80 to £3.

The day ticket allows people to park in any of the council's foreshore car parks.

Card-only machines are being installed in the following locations over the next few weeks:

  • Bournemouth Gardens Car Park, Whitley Bay (near The Links)
  • Dukes Walk Car Park, Whitley Bay (behind the Rendezvous Cafe)
  • Beaconsfield Car Park, Tynemouth (above Longsands beach)
  • St Mary's Lighthouse, Whitley Bay
