Head teachers thank clothing charity for helping kids during pandemic

Head teachers thanked West Lothian Clothing Bank for helping children at their schools.

During the pandemic, there has been a push on PE for children to spend more time outdoors.

However, some parents can’t afford to buy extra clothing.

The School Bank West Lothian has been on hand to help such marginalised families and staff at the schools are very appreciative of their efforts.

The group was able to help thanks to extra funding from the Tormywheel Small Grants Fund and Community Funding Scotmid,

This has allowed it to provide approximately 140 children in the Fauldhouse and Breich Valley area with waterproof trousers and jackets for their outdoor PE classes.

Head teacher at Falla Hill Primary in Fauldhouse, Martin McCusker, said the clothing was gratefully received.

He said: “The waterproof clothing has allowed all P4-P7 children to experience more outdoor learning and PE, and to make more use of the school garden.

“Every class has spent an increased time outdoors as part of class work such as maths or on community projects including taking part in litter picking.”

Principal teacher at Addiewell Primary, Karen MacMillan, said: “The waterproofs have helped ensure we can all enjoy more outdoor PE and it allows us to take our learning lessons outdoor too.

"They have been gratefully received and certainly helped in these difficult times.”
