'Head and shoulders above ' - Danny Mills gives his verdict on Leeds United's Championship promotion hopes

Former Leeds United defender Danny Mills believes his old side are starting to “look head and shoulders above everyone” in the Championship.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side beat Hull City 2-0 at Elland Road on Tuesday night to open up an 11-point gap over third place in the Championship.

The Whites are currently top of the table, but could be leapfrogged by West Bromwich Albion tonight as the Baggies look to make it seven straight wins themselves as they host Wigan Athletic.

And Mills believes if the pair continue their impressive form over festive period then they could pull away from the chasing pack.

“Let’s hope so. People thought that was going to be the case last year,” the former full-back replied when asked on Sky Sports whether his old side will be promoted this season.

“At Christmas, teams normally top at Christmas go up automatically. But Leeds managed to mess that one up and didn’t quite get it right.

“But I think at the moment Leeds and West Brom are starting to open up a bit of a gap. They are starting to look head and shoulders above everyone else and if they can get a good run over the festive period then there is no reason why those two teams can’t pull away."
