As the UK approaches its tenth week in lockdown, it seems that people have started experimenting with social distancing dates.
Following Boris Johnson’s speech earlier this month, in which he unveiled a roadmap for lifting the lockdown in the coming weeks, those in England are now allowed to meet up with one person outside of their household.
As a result, some single people have been making the most of the opportunity to go on dates for the first time in more than two months.
Sharing their experiences on this week’s episode of The Independent‘s Millennial Love podcast, four women describe the dates they’ve been on in the last week – and some were more successful than others.
One woman, named Georgie, describes how she and her date wound up in a cemetery.
“He went for a wee by the tree. We'd only had a bottle of water each. Obviously I’d much rather that than he wet himself on the date. It was pretty awkward.”
Meanwhile, another young woman named Lucy* reveals how her date attempted to flout social distancing rules by trying to kiss her.
“I started laughing and scooched back in the grass and was like, ‘we’re meant to be social distancing! I think he thought he was being very suave.”
Finally, we hear from Molly*, whose story illustrates how social distancing dates can be a success so long as you’re attracted to one another.
“We went to a park near where I live, he brought a picnic blanket and we sat two metres apart. We just sat there and chatted for seven hours.”
