'He wasn't having it': Lesser known side of Miguel Almiron's game gets Match of the Day praise

Miguel Almiron won praise on Match of the Day for a lesser known side of his game.

The Newcastle forward scored for the second successive game at Wolves , running onto a Dwight Gayle pass to finish well past Rui Patricio.

And Jermaine Jenas highlighted his defensive contributions as a key reason why Steve Bruce “loves” having the Paraguayan on board.

He said on Match of the Day: “You can see with the duels wons and ball recoveries, it’s a big part of Almiron’s game at Newcastle.

“He started the game well but he seems to have a real appetite about his game now and that’s what happens when you start scoring goals. The work ethic is one thing but he’d have been really disappointed that he wasn’t scoring the goals.

“He took his goal really well on his weaker foot and it’s three in four games now for Almiron. But it’s this (defensive) side of his game that I know Steve Bruce loves.

“He tackled Traore in the last minute of the game and he showed that side of it. Wolves were trying to get the ball to him to cause them problems but he wasn’t having it. He really helped out on the left hand side and it was a good performance.”
