'He was possibly getting a bit of stick' - Stoke City boss Michael O'Neill on Sam Clucas' celebration against Swansea City

Michael O'Neill said he had no issue with Sam Clucas' goal celebration in Stoke City's 2-0 win over Swansea City.

The central midfielder netted in the 55th minute to put the Potters ahead at the bet365 Stadium, with James McClean scoring in injury time to inflict a first Championship defeat of 2020 on the Swans.

After netting against his former club, Clucas ran the length of the pitch before celebrating in-front of the travelling Swansea fans.

It angered those who had made the long trip from South Wales, although they had given Clucas some stick from the stands during the course of the game.

And Stoke boss O'Neill admits he was delighted with the midfielder's second half display in the win against Swansea.

"I think he was possibly getting a bit of stick for his time at Swansea having been an ex-player," said O'Neill.

"Sam had an excellent second half, it was a great finish for the goal. He has that capability.

"In the first half by his own admission he gave the ball away a little bit but he still created chances and our best opportunities were still through Sam’s running power, getting beyond and getting forward.

"Seven goals at this stage of the season for a midfield player who doesn’t take penalties is a great return."

And when asked if he has any issue with Clucas' actions after his goal, the Northern Irishman responded: "No. Other than that I’d rather he added to his overall distance than he covered in the game.

"No issue with that whatsoever."

Swansea remain in seventh place in the Championship while Stoke moved up to 19th after completing a league double over Steve Cooper's men.
