'He was gone' - Denmark team doctor reveals what happened to ex-Tottenham man Christian Eriksen

Denmark's team doctor Morten Boesen has confirmed that Christian Eriksen "was gone" after he collapsed on the pitch during the Euro 2020 encounter between Denmark and Finland.

There were worrying scenes in Copenhagen when the former Tottenham player collapsed in the first half of the Euro 2020 opener with no one around him.

The doctor and physio rushed to the scene and Eriksen was given CPR on the pitch before being taken off and to hospital.

Eriksen is in a stable condition, recovering in hospital following the incident on Saturday evening with the entire footballing community rallying behind the likeable midfield man.

There have been plenty of concerns over Eriksen's situation, with a number of questions being raised from the incident.

As such, Denmark hosted a press conference to explain what happened on the pitch, with Eriksen needing to be resuscitated.

Denmark team doctor Morten Boesen said: "We don't have an explanation for what happened.

"I didn't see it live, I saw it on the screen after it happened. You have seen the same as me, but there's no explanation so far.

"He was gone. We did cardiac resuscitation. And it was cardiac arrest. How close were we [to losing him]? I don’t know. We got him back after one defib (defibrillation), so that’s quite fast."
