'He was fantastic' - Tottenham fans go wild as UEFA make Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg decision

Tottenham supporters absolutely love that midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has now been recognised by UEFA for his qualities.

Hojbjerg, who was signed by Spurs from Southampton last summer, was one of the standout performers in Euro 2020, as he helped Denmark reach the semi-finals of the competition.

The 25-year-old featured in all six of the Danes' matches before they were beaten 2-1 by England in the final four last week.

The Spurs midfielder is well known for his hard tackling, but he showcased exactly what he can do on-the-ball when playing for his country in the tournament - registering three assists in his six matches.

His form in the Euros has seen him rewarded with a spot in UEFA's Team of the Tournament, the only Spurs player to feature in the XI.

The full team: Gianluigi Donnarumma (Italy), Leonardo Spinazzola (Italy), Harry Maguire (England), Leonardo Bonucci (Italy), Kyle Walker (England), Jorginho (Chelsea), Hojbjerg (Spurs), Pedri (Spain), Federico Chiesa (Italy), Raheem Sterling (England), Romelu Lukaku (Belgium).

Spurs supporters, understandably, are delighted with Hojbjerg's inclusion in the team, with one of them even calling for him to be named captain by new boss Nuno Espirito Santo ahead of next season.

Former Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho was a huge fan of Hojbjerg and in December, he labelled some of his work as "genius".

Mourinho said: "Pierre is, first of all, very intelligent. He reads the game very well. He's going to be a coach one day, for sure.

"He's a pain, asking questions about why we do this and why we do that. On the pitch, he reads the situation very, very well and the people that surround him are really compact, they read the game.

"Physically he is very, very strong and technically he is much better than people think.

"Because sometimes people think the guy that is good technically is the guy that does the backheel.

"The guy that is good technically is the guy that does something wonderful. But these are not my words. These are words from coaches of 30, 40 years ago. Simplicity is genius.

"And the guy is so simple in everything he does with the ball. And I think he's a phenomenal player. Congratulations, Mr. [Daniel] Levy."
