A young man was left critically hurt after a shocking stabbing attack in south Manchester this morning.
The victim, aged in his 20s, was found having been knifed in the head on Yew Tree Road in Moss Side at around 10.15am.
An air ambulance landed at the scene and the victim was taken to hospital in a critical condition.
Police said thankfully his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
Two men, aged 22 and 32, have been arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault. They remain in custody for questioning.
The incident happened outside a terraced property among a small row of shops in a busy residential area.
A local shopkeeper told the Manchester Evening News: "There was a fight - I saw five or six of them helping the guy.
"They were holding towels around his face, he was bleeding very badly.
"Then the ambulance came."
The shopkeeper said he recognised the men as a group that live together locally.
"They are all customers," he said.
"I think they were drunk and they had a fight."
There was a heavy police presence at the scene throughout the day, with a blue tent erected on the street.
A large amount of blood was visible on the pavement and evidence markers were laid out by forensics experts.
A nearby alleyway running down the back of Letchworth Street and Arnside Street was also taped off.
Forensic officers appeared to be combing through rubbish for clues.
Detective Inspector Pete Morley of GMP's City of Manchester division, said: "This was a serious assault that has left one man in hospital. Our thoughts are with him as he receives urgent medical attention.
"Our enquiries are in their initial stages but we do believe this to have been an isolated incident with no wider threat to the public.
"We currently have two males detained and in custody for questioning but we would appeal for anyone with information to come forward and assist us with our investigation."
