'He was a beautiful soul' - Mum's touching tribute after Wigan dad, 24, found dead in South Cheshire lake

The mother of a 24-year-old dad from Wigan has spoken out about her 'perfect son' after he was tragically found dead at a popular fishing lake in Cheshire.

Caleb Unsworth, who lived in Leigh, was reported missing over the weekend, prompting a mass appeal on social media from family and friends who were desperately searching for him.

He had been visiting Winterley Pool Farm in Haslington, near Crewe, with two friends on a fishing trip over the Bank Holiday weekend when he was last seen.

Sadly, after calling in a specialist underwater search team, police have now confirmed that Caleb's body was discovered in a lake near the farm shortly after noon on Sunday, May 30.

In a statement, officers said his death is not being treated as suspicious.

Caleb was the father of 18-month-old Wynter Unsworth and fiance to Kaitlin Parr, with the two expecting to get married next year, his mum, Lisa Unsworth, said.

"He was just a happy soul, he cheered everybody up and made them happy, everybody loved him," she said.

"He was my rock and he loved Kaitlin and his little baby girl so much.

"He was a good lad, he never brought trouble to my door and he always helped me."

Caleb worked as a bricklayer and had been around building trade for much of his life.

After growing up in Platt Bridge and going to St Edmund Arrowsmith High School in Ashton-in-Makerfield, he later moved to Leigh.

Lisa said that Caleb had three younger siblings - two brothers, aged 14 and 12, and an eight-year-old sister - and that he spent much of his youth helping her to look after them.

He would also visit his grandfather Roy Clark every week to do his shopping and make sure he was taking his medication.

"He loved to look after people," she said.

"He was a beautiful soul. To me he was perfect in every way. His heart was always in the right place."

Cheshire Police said Caleb had been formally identified and that his family had been informed of his deat.

A spokesperson for the force said: "Officers searching for a man who had gone missing whilst fishing at Winterley Pool Farm on Crewe Road in Haslington have found his body.

"The man was reported missing at around 1am on Sunday (May 30). Officers swiftly attended and began searching the area for the man.

"An underwater search team subsequently found a body in a lake at Winterley Pool Farm shortly after 12 noon that day.

"His family were informed and the body has since been formally identified as that of the missing man.

"His death is not believed to be suspicious. A case file will be prepared for the coroner."
