'He struggled with mental illness - but Christopher was generous, mischievous and a gentle giant'

The family of a "gentle, loving and thoughtful" man have released a heartbreaking tribute after his death.

Christopher Jones, is believed to have taken his own life on July 22 following a long battle with mental health problems.

But despite his struggles, Christopher's family said he should not be defined by his demons.

They released a photograph of the 32-year-old , of Pontypool, with a big smile on his face and said: "In this picture you will see amusement, mischief, but what you cannot see was the kindness, helpfulness, generosity and his love of animals.

"These are some of the characteristics that people who met him immediately warmed to without exception. Christopher could not socialise very well because he had Asperger's, but one-to-one he was great.

"This was the real Christopher Jones.

"There were flashes by the real Christopher, but he was blighted by mental illness in the form of Asperger's, schizophrenia and paranoia. These conditions were outside his control and made his life intolerable."

A fundraising page has now been set up to help Christopher's family pay for the costs of his funeral.

A fundraising page has been set in Chris's memory (GoFundMe)

The page, set up by Christopher's cousin Donna Sullivan read: "After losing a beloved family member, our families' hearts are broken.

"As you you can imagine, our family are devastated over the loss of such a beautiful soul."

Commenting on the page, one person added: "Christopher was a gentle giant. He would never have hurt or raised his voice to another human being or animal.

"It's okay to not be okay. Rest in Peace Christopher."

Another said: "Love you always you strong, brave, kind, gentle giant."

A family fun day will also be held in Christopher's memory on August 11 at the Olive Tree in Cwmbran.

The event will run from 1pm to 4pm, where proceeds will go towards the funeral.

Christopher's family would like to thank the Olive Tree for donating the space for the day.
