"He still plays football?" Jack Wilshere returns to West Ham's squad for Leicester City clash

Jack Wilshere has been named on the bench for West Ham for their Premier League match against Leicester City on Saturday afternoon and it seems some West Ham fans have forgotten about him.

The midfielder has played just six times in so far in his first campaign with the club after joining on a free transfer from Arsenal last summer.

Wilshere started the first four games of the season, which the Hammers all lost, before picking up his first ankle injury of the campaign which kept him out for nine games.

He returned to action off the bench as a substitute in the 3-0 victory over Newcastle on December 1, playing the final eight minutes and picking up an assist for Felipe Anderson's late third goal.

However, he then injured his other ankle in training not long after and has been out ever since until today, ruled out of the last 20 West Ham games after undergoing minor ankle surgery.

The midfielder played for the Hammers U23s last weekend as they beat Leicester in PL2 1-0 at the London Stadium and was expected to feature for the youngsters again this week in their draw with Derby.

However, the injury to Manuel Lanzini has seen Wilshere drafted back in probably a week sooner than the club would have liked and have planned for so whether he sees any game time on Saturday remains to be seen.
