‘He’s the real deal’ – Danny Mills predicts big future for young Leeds United star

Former Leeds United defender Danny Mills believes youngster Jamie Shackleton is good enough to be a midfield regular for the Whites next season.

The 19-year-old broke into the the Leeds side this season, and despite being mainly used as a substitute throughout the campaign, played 90 and 66 minutes of the two play-off semi-final encounters against Derby County.

But Mills, speaking to Football Insider, is convinced the Elland Road academy graduate is the “real deal” and can be a major force for the club in the coming seasons.

"Shackleton has done very well when he’s played for Leeds,” the former England international said.

“He’s quick, tenacious, drives forward with the ball and can see a pass.

“He can slot into the midfield area next season, no problem.

"If you have him and Kalvin Phillips, you need someone creative alongside them.”
