He's the best in the League - Gary Hamilton full of praise for his star man

Gary Hamilton has unearthed a few gems for Glenavon down the years, but he has given a current squad member the nod as "one of the best signings" he has made.

Rory Brown joined the Lurgan Blues last summer after a loan spell with Ballinamallard United from Glentoran and has made a big impression at the club.

The 22-year-old has been a rock in between the sticks for Glenavon, and proved his worth yet again with two superb saves against Glentoran to earn his side a point just 24 hours after becoming a father.

Hamilton was delighted with the big stopper's performance and heaped praise on him.

"We 100% have the best goalkeeper in the league," he said.

"He made two wonder saves in the first-half (against Glentoran) but Rory takes balls with confidence that goes into the box.

"He's 22-years-old but shows maturity and he's played a day after his partner gave birth and I text him saying he needs a clean sheet to celebrate.

"Fair play to him and it's been a great couple of days for him.

"I told the Chairman he's one of the best signings I've made, yes he needs love, but I don't mind giving him that as he's a great character in the changing room and he works his socks off."

Hamilton is hoping the draw at The Oval can kick start Glenavon for the remaining games of the season, starting with their trip to Newry City on Saturday afternoon.

"It's been one of the seasons, a lot of refereeing decisions went against us at the start of the season," he said.

"Hopefully we can take confidence from Tuesday night as nobody made any individual errors as that's been our Achilles' heel this season."

Elsewhere on Saturday in the league Portadown entertain Carrick Rangers in a crucial game at the foot of the table.
