'He's the best centre-back at Tottenham!' Spurs fans and media rave about Joe Rodon after that performance

After waiting patiently for his chance, Joe Rodon has surely muscled his way into Jose Mourinho's first team plans.

The former Swansea City centre-back arrived in North London with the deserved reputation as one of the best players in the Championship at the end of the summer transfer window, but it now seems he's ready to make a mark in the top flight too.

Rodon has, despite the occasional plea from Spurs fans, had to bide his time.

It has previously seemed as though Rodon is still very much seen as 'one for the future' by Mourinho, but that could have all changed.

The Wales international arguably sent out his strongest message yet during Sunday afternoon's clash with Premier League strugglers Sheffield United at Bramall Lane, working brilliantly alongside England international Eric Dier on only his second Premier League start.

His accomplished performance was so good, some fans even suggested Rodon actually carried his more experienced centre-back partner through the game.

Those Spurs fans that have advocated for Rodon to be given more first team opportunities will only have felt more emboldened by what they saw from the 23-year old in South Yorkshire, with many taking to social media to rave about his performance.

And, many believe Mourinho now cannot afford to overlook the Welshman any longer.

Indeed, even some sections of the national media have now suggested that Rodon could soon be the club's best centre-back.

Spurs went on to claim a 3-1 win over the Blades, setting themselves up nicely for a titanic clash with Premier League champions Liverpool, while the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City are also looming on the horizon.

Whether Mourinho will call on the Welshman for that clash remains to be seen, but it's safe to say that many fans believe he is capable of standing up to the challenge.
