"He's not getting a Blue Peter badge for this homemade effort" - driver used old blue rope to secure car battery

A driver who used old rope, scrap rubber and a place mat to secure his car battery has been banned from driving the vehicle.

The motorist was pulled over on Ashton Street, in Ince, Wigan.

Officers discovered the bizarre DIY job when they looked under the bonnet of his car.

Officers issued a PG9 - a road-worthiness prohibition notice, which prohibits motorists from driving a vehicle.

Referencing the long-running BBC children's television programme, they quipped that the driver would not be winning a Blue Peter badge for this "homemade effort".

Greater Manchester Police officers tweeted about the incident on Sunday morning (September 6).

They wrote: "#XT11 stopped this vehicle on ASHTON STREET. INCE.

"the driver had used old blue rope, scrap rubber and a place mat to secure his battery. PG9 issued and driver reported.
