West Ham United boss David Moyes has been backed to make a move for British players this summer.
Former Leeds United striker Noel Whelan has said Moyes will be more inclined to pursue moves for players based in Great Britain as opposed to signing foreign nationals.
Whelan's comments come after West Ham registered an interest in Nottingham Forest defender Matty Cash in January.
Moyes and the Hammers were constantly linked with a move for the right-back while Italian giants AC Milan were also credited with an interest.
Cash has impressed this season, operating at right-back under Sabri Lamouchi as Forest eye a place in the Premier League through the Championship's play-off places.
Now Whelan reckons Moyes will concentrate his efforts on signing British players once the window opens.
"Again, you see him looking for British players, I think he's had enough of the foreign players coming in with their big names and not producing," Whelan told Football Insider.
"You see him now assembling a good core of British players that know what the English Premier League and English football is all about.
"West Ham are one of these where Moyes is looking for a certain type of character now, he's seen the characters that he's had, that he’s inherited with some of the foreign players and they’re a bit soft mentally. There's not enough passion there for him that they need at the club.
"I don't think he'll be rushing into signing any more foreign players because we've seen that he goes for more of the English kind of character that they need at West Ham."
Cash has made 36 appearances for Forest this season, registering four assists and scoring four goals.
The former Wycombe Wanderers and FAB Academy man joined the Reds in 2014 and has made 135 career appearances on Trentside.
