'He's had enough opportunities' - Former Sunderland loanee Alan Hutton says Jordan Jones time at Ibrox is over

Former Sunderland defender Alan Hutton has called time on Jordan Jones' Rangers career with the winger currently on loan at the Stadium of Light.

Jones fell out of favour with Steven Gerrard after breaching Covi-19 regulations and has not played for the Gers since.

However, the 26-year-old has kickstarted his career on Wearside following a handful of impressive performances after a slow start.

Jones opened his Sunderland account in style at Crewe Alexandra as the Black Cats came from behind to draw with the Alex.

The midfielder then put in another impressive display for Lee Johnson's side as they ended their hoodoo at Fratton Park with a 2-0 win.

His performances have reportedly attracted a number of suitors from the Championship.

Despite his good form on Wearside, Hutton believes that Jones has played his last game for the Scottish champions. Speaking to Football Insider he said: "I’m not sure he can [redeem himself]. It’s one of those ones where he had opportunities at Rangers. Gerrard put him in and sometimes we would see the best of him but not enough.

“Obviously the Covid issues, hampered by injuries, I’m not going to say I’m on the fence. I believe the time’s passed. He’s went down, he’s moved on, he’s playing well at a decent level and scoring goals.

“I just feel his time that Rangers, he’s had enough opportunities, it’s not quite worked out. The player has to think of himself as well, he obviously wasn’t happy when he was there.”
