'He's got the power' - John Heitinga comments on Everton's potential pursuit of Denzel Dumfries

John Heitinga believes that more clubs will be interested in Denzel Dumfries following his promising display for the Netherlands on Sunday evening.

The Dutch got their Euro 2020 campaign off to a winning start this weekend with a 3-2 victory over Ukraine in Amsterdam, with the PSV defender bagging the winning goal five minutes from the end.

The 25-year-old has been linked with a potential move to Goodison Park over the last few weeks, with Marcel Brands reportedly leading the search as the club look to appoint a new manager.

And, speaking to the Stadium Astro YouTube channel following Sunday's Netherlands match, former Blues star Heitinga revealed his belief that Dumfries' performance will have caught the eye of a lot of teams when asked about a potential Goodison move.

The former Dutch international said: "I just spoke with him, he’s not even tired. He was running on the right, up and down. How many times was he in the box? What a performance.

"He's got the strength, he's got the power.

"This is why Euro 2020 is a stage for players to sell themselves as well. With his performance, there will be more teams interested in Dumfries I guess.

"He's got abilities, but he's not technically the best player. He has to work on his final pass, that's for sure.

"But for me he's the man of the match. It's also about the formation and if it fits him perfectly, so we have to give credit to Frank De Boer.

"All the credit to Dumfries tonight."
