'He's got an allotment': Labour MP defends Jeremy Corbyn's green credentials ahead of election

A Labour MP has defended Jeremy Corbyn's environmental credentials by saying "he's got an allotment".

Catherine West MP made the comment while debating with Green Party co-leader Jonathan Bartley about the upcoming general election on Sky News.

Ms West denied that Corbyn was "business as usual" when it comes to the environment.

"He was green before the Greens existed", Ms West said.

"He rode a bike. He’s got an allotment. He will do both. He will bring social justice and a green revolution."

She continued: "Have the vision of the Greens but vote Labour if you really want it to happen."

Mr Bartley laughed at the mention of the Labour leader's allotment and said: "It's got to be more than an allotment.

"Let's just look at the facts in 2017..."

However, he was interrupted by Ms West, who asked him to "stop mansplaining".

"If you continue to mansplain, I'll have to complain", she said.

As the campaign for the general election kick starts, the Labour Party has said their plan for a Green New Deal includes installing solar panels on almost two million homes and creating a new Clean Air Act.
