A St. Louis, Missouri, woman stops by the bar after a “long day at work” and orders a water. However, another customer starts berating her when he finds out what she’s drinking. Her response shocks him.
In a video with over 618,000 views, TikToker Jomfnann (@jomfnann) presses record as a man next to her at the bar tells her she “sucks” and “not in a good way.”
“‘Cause I got a water!” she exclaims. But instead of getting upset by his rude comment, she jokingly gives him constructive criticism on how to approach women at a bar.
“You could have been like, ‘Hey, pretty lady, what are you drinking? Oh, you’re drinking water. What do you drink in general?'” she explains to the man.
Then she calls out men for being “used to [women] carrying [them] on their back and on their titty” to the point that they can’t take initiative in a conversation. She continues to call him “lazy.”
The man sounds shocked and exclaims, “I like this one!”
“The conclusion is you didn’t want to buy me a drink. You just wanted to tell me how you wanted to buy me a drink,” she says. “I hate a shoulda, coulda, woulda a– man. You didn’t do it.”
The man and his friends groan in protest in the background. However, her rant seems to work as she shares in the caption that the man ended up covering her entire tab.
Is it a faux pas to order water at the bar?
Several comments question why the man was so pressed that the TikToker ordered herself a water while sitting at the bar. According to Reddit, many bartenders don’t mind if a customer orders water instead of a drink—especially if there’s no crowd and they still tip. In the video, the bar appears mostly empty.
Posters on the subreddit r/bartenders say there are tactful ways to sit at the bar if you aren’t ordering a drink.
“If you only want water, come with a friend who drinks or spends money. Bars are a business, and we need to make money,” one shares. “I’m sorry, but even if we’re not busy you need to get something (for example, FOOD) mostly if you’re gonna be there for a while. If it’s a quick stop for water, I absolutely don’t mind.”
“If you are tipping relative to the norm of the bar (or someone in your group is tipping fat), it’s fine. Do with that as you will,” another says.
A third suggests, “Are you paying for food? I mean, I’d rather my bar customers drink, sure…but if you sit at my bar, spend money and tip me for my time/effort…I couldn’t care less.”
However, the TikToker wasn’t planning to sit at the bar with just water. In a follow-up video, she says she ordered a water while she decided what alcoholic beverage she wanted to order.
“God forbid a woman wants to be mindful and hydrate before she drinks liquor, Jesus Christ,” a viewer writes in a comment liked by the TikToker.

In the comments, other women applaud her for her bold but friendly response to the man’s rude remarks.
“You had the right personality for this encounter,” one says.
“The fact that he kept insulting you and you handled him and that whole situation with grace is top tier,” a second compliments.
“I love that you didn’t let them interrupt you. I aspire to this level of unbotheredness,” another writes.
The TikToker responds to the comments, encouraging other women to speak up when men are impolite.
“If you are having a conversation with me, you don’t start it off with ‘You suck,'” she says in the follow-up video. “Men will say whatever they want to say. Let them know a piece of your mind.”
