Actor and filmmaker Robert De Niro, of The Godfather Part II and Taxi Driver fame, has never been one to mince words when it comes to people like Donald Trump.
Since his assuming power for a second term this year as President of the United States, De Niro has emerged as one of the most vocal critics of his administration.
More recently, Robert De Niro was seen promoting the ‘No Kings’ protests held nationwide on October 18 to oppose the government, which is slowly slipping into a state of Dictatorship under the Trump regime. In a post shared by the official Instagram page of Indivisible Guide (a group actively involved in protests against Trump) on October 9, De Niro, through a video message, communicated the importance of people turning out in numbers on the streets. Noting how America had endured years of wars, he emphasised the need to maintain democracy despite threats from “would-be king” Donald Trump. He also chanted strong words of resistance, saying “We’re all in this together, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all” while several in the comments section of the video agreed.
Robert De Niro is again taking a strong anti-Trump stance during an interview with MSNBC. Letting the interviewers know about his appreciation for California Governor Gavin Newsom, who has repeatedly spoken out against Trump, Robert De Niro said:
“He’s trolled him and he’s fought fire with fire, and that’s what you have to do when you call them an invasive species, which is what he is.”
He continued:
“He has no empathy. I don’t know what he is. He’s an alien. And he wants to hurt this country. It’s something deeply psychological in him. He wants to hurt people, he wants to hurt this country and he doesn’t care.”
He further mentioned his disgust over people sticking up for a person like Trump while also expressing surprise over people in his Cabinet who enable him.
