‘He’s always waving at me‘: Woman moves into new apartment. Then man across the street keeps looking in her window. So she teaches him a lesson

Everyone has experienced that uncomfortable feeling that someone is watching you. Maybe you get goosebumps, or the hairs raise on the back of your neck, or something just tells you to turn around right now.

Often, there’s nobody there. It’s just your imagination giving you the creeps.

For one urban woman, there actually is someone watching. Maysa Moet (@maysamoet) says she recently moved into a high-rise apartment building. They assured her that no one in the surrounding buildings can see in.

It turns out that isn’t true. Moet says that a man in an office building across the street can clearly see in. He keeps waving at her while she’s inside her apartment.

It may not seem intrusive to him. But he’s not the woman across the street who keeps seeing a man looking in her windows while she’s going about her business.

So Moet is getting even.

How does she get revenge?

“So I’m going to play a little game,” Moet says in a TikTok about her plan. “And instead of me sitting at the table waving at him, I’m going to roll Mason over there and I’m going to let Mason wave at him.”

The Mason in question is a life-size male doll. Mason is lifelike enough that at a distance it’s possible that someone might think he’s a real person, albeit one who doesn’t move and has a strange affinity for waving.

In her post, Moet positions Mason next to the window and fixes his hand in a waving position.

“We’re just going to leave him here for a couple days and see what’s happens,” Moet says, adding, “Mason wants to say hi. So, ‘hi guys.'”

Nosy neighbors

It may seem harmless or just normal curiosity to pay attention to your neighbors. But there’s a lot of daylight between glancing over once in a while and watching your neighbor’s every move.

In fact, watching them enough or taking photos of them inside their home could rise to the level of invasion of privacy or even criminal stalking.

Deciding whether to call the police can be a bit tricky when you’re dealing with someone who lives or works next door. It’s not like you won’t ever see them again.

But if you feel unsafe, you should probably err on the side of caution and tell the authorities.

If you simply feel a bit uncomfortable or think it’s rude, you can try other tactics before escalating the matter to the cops. You could make it so they can’t see in by installing curtains, blinds, or window film. Another option is doing the same thing to them in the hopes of making them realize that it’s inappropriate.

Or, like Moet, you could get a mannequin to do your creeping for you.

A creative solution

People who commented on Moet’s post are big fans of her means of getting revenge on the nosy office worker across the street.

A few wondered why Moet just randomly has a life-sized male doll lying around. While some suggested Mason may have more, ahem, skills than waving, he seems to be mostly a prop. Moet’s been using him in skits for months.

She’s inspired some people to consider investing in their own Mason.

“Omg as a single MOM with a million cameras outside I’m invested … I want a MASON!” one woman wrote. “That dude is going to think it’s a house a wax. I’m living for this.”

Most people just laughed at the prank.

“This is hilarious!” wrote one. “Teach him a lesson.”

Moet replied, “Lesson taught.”

She didn’t respond to a direct message sent via TikTok.
