"He's always on my side" - Cristiano Ronaldo claims he has Sir Alex Ferguson support at Manchester United

Cristiano Ronaldo has claimed that he 'always' has the full support of former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

Ferguson, who brought Ronaldo to Old Trafford for the first time back in 2003, signing him for a fee just north of £12million from Sporting Lisbon, played a key role in convincing the Portugal captain to return to the club last summer. The former United boss reached out to the 37-year-old just as he looked set to sign for Manchester City.

The duo have always had a good relationship and that was key in enabling United to sign the five-time Ballon d'Or winner for a second time. They held talks just hours before United announced his return last August.

The Reds, despite showing signs of life under Erik ten Hag so far this season, have regressed since Ferguson retired back in 2013, something which Ronaldo has been critical of during his explosive interview with Piers Morgan. However, the Portuguese star has insisted that he always has the Scot's backing.

"I haven't spoken to him for like one month, but he's always on my side," said Ronaldo, speaking to TalkTV. "He always understand me. He knows that, he knows better than anybody that the club is not on the path they deserve to be. He knows. Everyone knows.

"The people who don't see that is because they don't want to see; they are blamed. The fans, they are always the answer, and the passion for the game. Manchester [United] belongs to the fans, but they should know the truth. The infrastructure [is] not good. They should change."
