'He's a fiery character' - Bristol City coach on quelling Nathan Jones and any Stoke City revival

Incredibly Bristol City have never won two back-to-back away league games at Stoke City in their entire history.

And to do that the Robins will have to again push the reigning Potters boss closer to the precipice as they did when they won on New Year's Day and nudged Gary Rowett towards the door.

It's 60 years since any two consecutive victories against the Staffordshire side, even, demonstrating the different paths both clubs have trodden over the years.

And  - as they travel up north by train on Friday - Bristol City know that Stoke City's form could improve at any point and that the international break has given the home side a chance to regroup and stoke the fires of revival.

"They’re going through a difficult time at the moment but there’s some really good players there still," said assistant head coach Jamie McAllister on Thursday afternoon.

"The manager [Nathan Jones] is a little fighter as a manager - as he was as a player - and he’ll want to win the next game, the same as we do.

"I know they’re going through a difficult period but there’s no easy time to play them. It’s got to change at some point for them but hopefully it won’t be Saturday for them. We’re doing all we can to make sure it’s not.

"But we’ve got to focus on us and what we do - and make sure we start bright and put them under pressure. And hopefully their fans will turn. We need to build on our unbeaten run and nail the basics then be relentless in everything else that we do."

Bristol City are ready to push on and try and make it six games unbeataen in the league. Stoke City have lost five of their six league games this season, including two of their three home games thus far.

The Robins are confident and it's a case of old acquaintances renewed for McAllister.

"Yeah, I played against him [Jones] a few times. A fiery character - a good left-back and full of energy," he explained.

"He's very enthusiastic in everything that he does. He’s got a good group of players and I’m sure he’ll turn it round. But hopefully it’s next week and not this," he said.

Meanwhile, Bristol City midfielders Adam Nagy and Han-Noah Massengo are being assessed ahead of the weekend after travelling away with their respective national teams (Hungary and France U19).

"He’s [Nagy] one of the players we’re monitoring to make sure he’s okay and right. He’s been away and been off for a few weeks," said McAllister.

"You don’t want to just chuck him straight back in - we’re getting a report from Hungary. What minutes he did in training and what he did in the game. How he’s been while he’s been away with them.

"We’ll assess it and make sure he’s right for Saturday."
