'He opened my eyes' Kemar Roofe hails the impact Marcelo Bielsa had on his life on and off the pitch

Kemar Roofe says Marcelo Bielsa 'opened his eyes' in the year he worked with him at Leeds United .

The former Whites striker enjoyed the best season of his career last year when he netted 15 goals during the Whites promotion push before completing a £7million move to Belgian side Anderlecht last month after he entered the final 12 months of his Elland Road contract.

Roofe , who is currently sidelined with an injury he picked during Leeds United's tour of Australia, has been reflecting on his time under the Argentine.

"I learned a lot. He opened my eyes to the way football can be played," Roofe told Eleven Sports in Belgium.

"On and off the pitch as well, you learn a lot from him. It's like school. Like going back to school but in a football sense."

Bielsa immediately put his faith in Roofe as the central striker following his arrival in the summer of 2018 and looked to keep a settled team whenever he could, which Roofe saw as another factor in his progression under the Argentine.

"He gave me new ideas of how to play the game and also gave me consistent game time to be able to do that and show what I can do.

"Every day was different. I'd be going home back to my family telling them a new story, but it is good.

"I'm glad I was able to work with him."

Roofe was yet to make his debut for his news side, with the injury he sustained Down Under at the end of July originally ruling him out for four week.
