Duje Caleta-Car has been criticised for his decline in performances since seeing a move to Liverpool fall through in January.
The Croatian had been identified as a potential solution to the Reds' defensive injury crisis but a move fell through with Marseille unable to sign a replacement, as the defender was reportedly left waiting at the airport as Jurgen Klopp 's side swooped for Ozan Kabak and Ben Davies instead.
Marseille sit sixth in Ligue 1 after winning just four of their 12 league matches since the January transfer window closed, while they also suffered an embarrassing Coupe de France exit at the hands of fourth tier side Canet Roussillon.
Meanwhile, Caleta-Car was sent off as Marseille conceded in the last minute to draw 3-3 with Montpellier in their last outing.
And the 24-year-old's performances have been criticised by France legend Manuel Amoros, who believes the centre-back is still being affected by his failed move to Liverpool.
“He disappoints me, he is sluggish, I saw him operating at a higher level", the former Monaco and Marseille star told L’Equipe.
"In this new system, you have to be attentive to movement, mark the opponent tightly and this is not the case.
"Maybe he was disappointed that he did not sign for Liverpool in the winter, but he needs to move on and not forget the club who are paying him, even in the summer.
"Put him on the bench and let his competitors play a bit. That could allow him to refocus."
