'He needs a regular game of football' - Premier League manager addresses future of striker linked with Forest

Connor Wickham was another name added to the list of potential January arrivals at Nottingham Forest when he was linked with a City Ground move last month, and now Roy Hodgson says he would not block a move away.

Hodgson says he'll consider allowing Wickham to leave following the capture of Cenk Tuson from Everton, with the ex-England boss saying he wouldn't stand in his way should an opportunity to go and play arise.

Restricted to just four Premier League appearances off the bench this term, scoring once, the 26-year-old is frustrated at his lack of action at Selhurst Park and keen to get out and play.

Wickham has fallen behind Christian Benteke and Jordan Ayew in the pecking order, and will now likely find his opportunities further reduced by the arrival of the Turkish international.

"He needs a regular game of football," said Hodgson.

"He knows we can’t guarantee that here, with [Christian] Benteke coming back as well.

"I have no interest in pushing him out of the door. He is a useful man to have around the squad.

"If the situation arises where he is knocking our door down to go out on loan, I wouldn’t stand in his way.

"I am relaxed about the situation."

Having previously been coveted by Forest, Wickham’s availability has also alerted the likes of Sheffield Wednesday and Bristol City, who like the Reds, continue to see their name attached to a plethora of frontmen.

Forest, meanwhile, remain keen on Brighton’s Glenn Murray, Che Adams, Eddie Nketiah and Dwight Gayle while they’ve also been linked with Jonathan Kodjia.
