'He made me a scapegoat' - Mark Viduka opens up on turbulent relationship with former Leeds United boss

Mark Viduka has opened up on his troublesome relationship with former Leeds boss Peter Reid.

Reid was Elland Road chief for just eight months in 2003.

He managed to keep them up in the 2002-03 season but the following campaign saw him axed in November.

Viduka hit 11 goals that term, but it wasn't enough to prevent the club's relegation.

Now, the Australian has revealed that he believes Reid made him a scapegoat during the club's troubles.

"When Peter Reid came I had no problems at all with him," Viduka said, speaking to ESPN.

"Later on, my biggest problem with him was that he realised what the situation was and he was looking for a scapegoat and that scapegoat was me.

"He knew that they (Leeds) didn't have any money.

"My biggest problem with him was he was very dishonest, towards me in a way.

"The season before (2002-03) I think I scored 15 goals in ten games and we stayed up.

"To be honest I don't think he had the capacity to be the coach at the time.

"But the way he actually conducted himself towards me, all I expect from managers and people in general is to tell me honestly what they think.

"And I'll tell them honestly.

"I read an interview with him about his time at Leeds where he said he made an excuse saying that he had a go at me and that I couldn't take any criticism - all my life I've been taking criticism, no problems.

"I just can't take dishonesty."
