'He loved a tackle!" Josh Warrington's reveals dream Leeds United ring walk partner

Josh Warrington has revealed that he would choose either Billy Bremner or David Batty if he could pick any past Leeds United player for his upcoming IBF featherweight defence ring walk.

The Leeds Warrior has completed three defences of his belt since he beat Lee Selby at Elland Road in May last year to claim the world title.

Warrington most recently defeated Sofiane Takoucht at the First Direct Arena to keep possession of his crown and is now plotting a potential unification bout to unite the featherweight division.

The undefeated 29-year-old has become renown for his links with United, with Pablo Hernandez and Liam Cooper among those to previously accompany him on his walk to the canvas.

Now however, Warrington has revealed just which Leeds legends he would pick if he could choose any for his next bout, revealing two familiar names at the top of his dream wishlist - though with the caveat that he would have to resurrect one of them.

“Obviously if I can bring him back from the dead it would be Billy Bremner if it could be past or present," he told talkSPORT.

“But if we’re talking about ones who are out now then I think David Batty.

“I’ve had the pleasure of meeting him, but I know for a fact he won’t do it just because he is such a recluse these days.

“But I’d love to have Batty out there because he was just a no-nonsense footballer; he wasn’t the best but just loved a tackle! Leeds fans love him!”

“I don’t want to jinx it,” he added. “I don’t want to talk too much about it!

“I was saying earlier tonight at the awards; the weekend I beat Carl Frampton Leeds had just beat Aston Villa and we were number one for Christmas.

“And 99 per cent of teams who have been top of the table for Christmas had been promoted – if not automatically – then via the play-offs.

“And Leeds were the only ones to not follow that tradition! But things are now looking alright.

“Tuesday night’s game weren’t the best, but we ground out the result and, ultimately, that’s what needs to happen.

“And [Patrick] Bamford got a lot of stick earlier in the season for not scoring goals and missing opportunities, but he’s starting to find back of net now!

“So it’s about timing in the Championship, a lot of teams like Leeds last year, blow out by Christmas,. You want to be top of the league by end of the season so ask me again in April!”
