When you order something for pickup at Best Buy, you probably expect that it will be ready and waiting for you the next time you arrive. What you might not expect is for an employee to claim your order.
However, that’s what one TikTok user is alleging happened to him in a video with over 378,000 views.
In his video, TikToker Eric (@ericfixes) claims that an employee at Best Buy fraudulently picked up his order. The worst part? He says it’s not even the first time it happened.
What Happened to This Customer’s Best Buy Order?
In his video, Eric says that, while he was at a Katy Perry concert, he received an email. It informed him that his NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 Ti had been picked up at the store. It cost $450.
“This is rather odd, considering they check the IDs of anyone doing a curbside pickup,” Eric states.
On the advice of corporate, Eric says he decided to visit the store. When he arrived, he claims he made “eye contact with the same employee” he had previously spoken to about a held order. When he did, the employee “immediately [became] nervous and start[ed] tripping over himself.”
“He’s stuttering and stumbling over his words and he immediately gives me the refund with no further investigation,” Eric recalls.
According to Eric, this is the second time this has happened.
“I was charged for two Asus ROG handheld computers and the employees there were able to pick up the handheld computers without me being there, which means that covertly, Best Buy employees are charging customers’ cards and picking up the items and Best Buy hasn’t been doing anything about it,” he alleges.
In a follow-up video, Eric alleges that, given his experience, he believes that “Best Buy’s employees are using their access to customer databases to look up customer credit card info, steal the identity of customers, place orders in their name, and then they’re releasing those ill gotten goods to people in their inner circle or themselves using their access tools at Best Buy.”
Eric adds that he has since reached out to Best Buy about this issue and has not received a response. He warns Best Buy customers that they may, too, fall victim to the same issue.
Is This Possible?
Eric wouldn’t be the first person to make an allegation about a pickup item being fraudulently released to the wrong person.
Earlier this year, a Redditor alleged that he ordered a $1,500 computer for pickup. However, the store released it to someone else. Others have made comparable claims about their orders being given to the wrong person.
That said, it’s unclear how such mix-ups are possible. Best Buy’s website states that “your designated pickup person will be asked for the 4-digit code that is generated when checking in upon arrival to the pickup location. An ID may be requested upon pickup. Only you—or the person you’ve told us will pick up your order—can pick up your items.”
Without this code, it’s uncertain how someone was able to pick up his order, whether it was an employee or someone else. The Mary Sue has reached out to Best Buy via email for comment.
@ericfixes I am 100% convinced Best Buy employees are actively stealing from customers.

Commenters Don’t Trust Best Buy
In the comments section, users offered their thoughts on the issue. Some provided methods Eric could employ to escalate the problem.
“Former Best Buy manager here,” one suggested. “Go back and speak with the store manager. There are video cameras literally everywhere. If you have dates and times they should be able to pinpoint it. If the store manager refuses to do it or you are told footage doesn’t go back far enough, call corporate back and explain the issue. it will get escalated to district.”
“I worked at Best Buy for 5 years. This happens all the time. If you ever see two high level managers getting fired at the same time. It’s usually because they were working together stealing stuff,” claimed another.
“Former Best Buy employee here and I have stories for dayssss. I would go back ask to speak to the GM, if the kid did it to you chances are he’s doing it to a lot more people,” declared a third.
