'He has a bit of personality about him' - Pundits agree with Joe Gelhardt Leeds United verdict

Teenage striker Joe Gelhardt was handed his first Premier League start for Leeds United in their 2-1 defeat away to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday afternoon.

The young Liverpudlian impressed in his previous appearance for Leeds' first-team as he won the penalty which Rodrigo scored to take a point against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Prior to the defeat in north London Sky Sports' punditry team of Jamie Redknapp and Robbie Keane spoke very highly of the former Wigan teenager.

"He is probably early in his development because Raphinha would normally play in that area but he’s like a human wrecking ball," said Redknapp.

"You see him on the pitch, he made a real difference. I like him, he’s really exciting. He’s fast, he’s aggressive, he gets on the ball, takes people on. Once he gets into the box he loves it and where he can cause most of his damage."

Keane agreed that Gelhardt was exciting and encouraged the striker to take his big opportunity.

"He certainly looks like he’s got a bit. He has a bit of personality about him, he puts himself about and when he gets more experience, a few more games, more composure in front of goal.

"Sometimes in football you have to take your opportunities; one of Leeds’ best players in Raphinha is out injured now so go and make yourself known."

Gelhardt was given his big opportunity as Marcelo Bielsa was unable to call upon the services of Raphinha, Rodrigo and Jamie Shackleton as well as Patrick Bamford and Luke Ayling who were already ruled out earlier in the week and played 87 minutes of the 2-1 defeat.
