The family of a young man who died after an unexplained incident in Leeds has shared their heartbreak, saying his life was “cut tragically short.”
West Yorkshire Police were called to Tong Way in Farnley just before 8.40 am on Sunday, October 26, following reports of an altercation. When officers arrived, they found 20-something-year-old Shaqs Newone in need of urgent medical help, reported Yorkshire Live.
He was rushed to the hospital but sadly passed away later that night, around 10.30 pm. Friends and family have since set up a GoFundMe page to help with funeral costs and to honor his memory.
Shaqs, known affectionately as Shaq, was described by those closest to him as “full of love” and “the kindest soul you could ever meet.” In a public tribute, his loved ones said, “We lost Shaq in such an awful incident; it’s been a shock to everyone, especially his family. He had his whole life ahead of him and it was cut way too short and way too tragically.”
They added, “Shaq was so full of love for every person he met. He wore his heart on his sleeve, and he was the kindest soul you could ever meet. He also had big plans ahead of him within the music industry.”

According to those who knew him, Shaq was just starting to find success in music and had been working on new projects that showed real promise. Friends said he was “about to take off” with his career, describing him as a talented artist with a passion for creativity and community.
The news of his death has devastated friends, fans, and neighbors, with tributes pouring in across social media. Many have shared memories of Shaq’s infectious smile and generosity, saying he had a rare ability to make everyone around him feel valued.
Following his death, police arrested a 25-year-old man on suspicion of assault. Officers also found him in possession of a machete and Class B drugs. The suspect remains in custody while investigations continue.
Detectives are appealing for anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious in the Farnley area that morning to come forward. They are also asking for any footage—such as doorbell cameras or dashcams—that might help piece together what happened before police arrived.
A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said officers are keeping an open mind as they continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Shaq’s death.
For Shaq’s family, the loss is almost too much to bear. Friends have described them as “completely broken,” struggling to come to terms with how quickly everything changed. The GoFundMe set up in his memory has already seen dozens of donations, with messages of love and support flooding in from across Leeds.
“Shaq had so much love to give,” one friend wrote. “He always looked out for everyone else. Now we just want to make sure he’s remembered the way he deserves.”
As the investigation continues, the community is left mourning a young man who touched so many lives, gone far too soon.
