'He doesn't deal in b******t, Stephen - I admire him for that' - Shane Supple

Stephen Cluxton's aversion to playing the media game has made him an enigma.

It ironically adds to people's interest in him.

Dublin's five-time All-Ireland winning captain did turn up for the first couple of post-final interviews but hasn't been seen in the Croke Park press room since.

"I don’t think he means that to be the case," said Shane Supple, who was Cluxton's understudy in 2013.

"He is what he is. He doesn’t deal in b******t, Stephen. I admire him for that.

"It’s his way and he’s stuck to his guns throughout his career and maybe he’ll do something totally left field when he finishes up and do a book or something like that!".

Or even become a pundit?

"I can’t see that happening," smiled Supple.

"He’s someone different. There are not many who have come through their careers and they don’t want to speak.

"Captain of his county and achieved what he’s achieved, he doesn’t milk it at all.

"He just gets on with his day to day and his life. Fair play to him because I respect him for that."

On the outside, Cluxton is regarded as a dour individual.

"He wouldn’t be the life and soul of the party but he’d be there and having the craic," Supple insisted.

"He’s not going to be throwing shapes on the dancefloor in Coppers taking his top off like some others, but he loves that.

"That’s an important side of it and he sees that as captain".
